I have never before seen a sidewalk mark with a metal date. Eastern cities like Chicago, Buffalo and Toronto have old brass sidewalk marks, but this is the nearest to such a thing that I’ve found in Oakland.

Wicker marks are in pretty poor condition, but this one clearly shows the details including the address of 1457 12th Avenue, quite nearby.

This confirms that yesterday’s mark is in fact by W. D. Perine. I don’t dare guess the date, which is in the middle of this mark, but marks of this type generally predate 1920.
