Erik Magnus Hylt (1862-1932) was a Swedish immigrant who came to America in 1880 and ended up an early homeowner in Allendale. In 1889 he married another Swede, Augusta Hansson (1861-1944), in St. Paul, and their two children were born during the next five years in Chicago. Directories from 1899 to 1903 listed him living in Alameda. By 1906 he was an established cement worker who owned his home at 25 Franklin Avenue in Allendale, before its annexation to Oakland. The address later became 3732 39th Avenue, and he spent the rest of his life there. He was a regular precinct worker during local elections from 1917 to 1925.

This is his only surviving mark in Oakland. The house was built in 1926.
