E. 19th Street at 13th Avenue

I feel lucky when I can find any date at all in a Monohan mark.

1940 – C. Monohan

1940

2690 14th Avenue

Hope you can see this one.

1940 – J. H. Colgrove

30 June 2012

1940

1301 E. 28th Street

A new date for the stylish J. H. Colgrove.

1939 – N. J. Lindstrom

29 June 2012

1939

1351 E. 25th Street

1937 – N. Ferri

28 June 2012

1937

2729 Vallecitos Place

The enigmatic N. Ferri scrawled this mark 75 years ago almost to the day.

1934 – J. H. Fitzmaurice (II)

27 June 2012

1934

2645 14th Avenue

Another rare Fitzmaurice mark with a date, this one extends the overlap of two different configurations. This barrel mark is documented from 1926 to 1939. The 1926 and 1928 marks have small dates stamped inside, but examples from 1931 to 1939 have hand-written dates beneath. A new barrel configuration started in 1940 with a stamped date, but I have only the one dated example so far. Another barrel configuration followed, which I have never found with a date. Meanwhile, the arched text version is documented in 1931, 1933 and 1934, with hand-written dates.

1927 – J. Rodrigues

26 June 2012

1927

1315 E. 20th Street

I have figured this out: the big squiggle on the left is a “J” that J. Rodrigues added after he had split with Souza, chiseling off Souza’s name from the stamp. It’s clearer on the 1928 mark.
