1915 – Schnoor Bros.

3 April 2013

1915r

E. 20th Street at 22nd Avenue

This is a real definitive example of a Schnoor Bros. mark from 1915, which I believe is the firm’s first year. P. Schnoor & Son used the same mark, and I have examples from 1911, 1912 and 1913.

Notice that all the 1’s are backwards, and the dash in the date is also a backwards “1.”

Powell Bros. C. Co.

2 April 2013

powellbros-c-co

E. 24th Street at 21st Avenue

Unlike my previous Powell Bros. Concrete Co. mark, this one has (narrowly) escaped damage. Still looking for one with a date.

Moniz-Chaves

1 April 2013

moniz-chaves

1950 E. 21st Street

This is not quite the same as the “Moniz & Chaves” mark I’ve documented before. Also, it’s not misspelled.

J. Catucci Co.

31 March 2013

catucci

2034 E. 25th Street

This is the only Catucci mark I’ve found that includes the address of the firm. The building there still stands with the company name visible on it. Unfortunately this mark doesn’t have a date.

1938 – Carl T. Petersen

30 March 2013

1938ww

2172 E. 24th Street

Now I have dated marks from Carl Petersen for all years of the 1930s.

1928 – Paul Mortensen

29 March 2013

1928ppp

2524 Wakefield Avenue

This is my first example of Paul Mortensen using a straight text mark, rather than the curved text with the curlicue. I also have an example of that style from this year, suggesting that he adopted it during 1928.

1922 – G. Musso

28 March 2013

1922ee

2548 Wakefield Avenue

Pink concrete appears to have been a brief fad in the early 1920s. I usually don’t see it with dates, though. This gives me a range of dates for G. Musso from 1922 to 1940.
