This handsome escutcheon mark reads GEo GOODMAN / OFFICE / 307 MONTY ST / SF” using those adorable raised, underlined, small caps. When MS Word does this, it’s annoying.
Goodman was the manager and later owner of the California Artificial Stone Paving Company, which bedeviled other sidewalk makers (notably W. D. Perine) with lawsuits charging infringement of the Schillinger patent. It probably dates from 1897, when the house here was built.
