1940 – K. Rubenstein & Sons

16 January 2012

1940

3905 International Boulevard

I documented Rubenstein & Sons in front of their eponymous building on San Pablo. This mark is from the same year but is much better preserved, and it attests that the firm actually did concrete work elsewhere.

1939 – J. Kemble

1939

4028 International Boulevard

Well-dated J. Kemble marks are not common. This one is in a highly visible spot in front of a colorful car shop.

1937 – F. C. Vieira

1937

1501 38th Avenue

1937 – A. Casqueiro

1937

1424 40th Avenue

1937 – Riechel & Bredhoff

12 January 2012

1937

4121 E. 18th Street

Riechel & Bredhoff is poorly attested from the 1930s, but maybe that’s only because I haven’t visited the parts of town where they were most active then.

1928 – T. J. Garvey

11 January 2012

1928

1561 38th Avenue

When I started collecting T. J. Garvey marks, I had no idea they would lead me all the way back into the 1920s. This extends his range to 31 years.

1926 – M. Copertino Co.

10 January 2012

1926

1716 38th Avenue

I have never before found a heart-shaped sidewalk stamp. When I update the master key, M. Copertino will go in the “escutcheon” section.
