This is interesting. The very same mark appears in 1947 as “Avena and Son” rather than “S. Avena and Sons.” Between these two years, Mr. Avena chiseled off the first and last letters.

1345 E. 34th Street

I already have a 1928 Hennig mark, but this one is better and configured differently.

1377 E. 32nd Street

After all the W. O. Nelsons and F. E. Nelsons, this is the third Nelson on an Oakland sidewalk.

This is right across the street from the address on the stamp. The building there is a nondescript home of that vintage.

M. Goncalves is a new maker for me, and only my second with an “East Oakland” address (the other is C. F. Lund).
