George H. Hall was an early Berkeley contractor and was probably the Hall of Hall and Nelsen. There are no Geo. Hall marks in Oakland, but I’ll keep this one anyway.

This part of Berkeley has quite a show of old rarities. Always happy to flesh out the record of Oakland masons.

2920 Ellis Street, Berkeley

I don’t have a record of J. Sorensen marks in Oakland, but I’m including it here because there are several different Sorensens and Sorensons represented in this part of the East Bay and I haven’t worked out their relationships. I think this was laid by John R. Sorensen, who lived for many years in Berkeley.

2147 Russell Street, Berkeley

Semicircular stamps have been doubled up this way from the beginning. The last practitioner I can think of was Carlos Valenzuela, who did it from 1939 to 1960 and then used just one.
