I’ve run into Smilie before as part of Smilie & McArthur.
Incidentally, Coolidge used to be called Peralta Street when this area was part of Brooklyn. When Oakland annexed it, the name had to change because there was already a Peralta Street in West Oakland.

When I shot this, I thought I was documenting a 1918 mark, but then I got home and saw the real date at the bottom. It’s 1915, and a better example than this one. Thanks to Ken for correcting me (see his comment).

A more traditional mark by Hubmann from the same year as yesterday’s mark. At the time, this street was Hopkins Street, which once ran from Park Boulevard to Courtland Street.
