1939 – E. H. Buel

4 March 2014

1939ooo

4087 Norton Avenue

I found another 1939 example of Ensor Buel’s ebullient mark up in the Broadway Terrace hills two years ago, but that was on the cracked driveway of an empty firestorm lot and it may be erased by now. This one’s more secure.

1931 – A. MacDonald

3 March 2014

1931vvv

3814 Midvale Avenue

I’ve documented this date from MacDonald before, but the date was at the bottom of the mark rather than the middle.

1928 – W. Pool

2 March 2014

1928aaaa

4020 Norton Avenue

This differs from my previous 1928 W. Pool mark; the last letter is capitalized.

1972 – Hilda

1 March 2014

1972c

3024 Kansas Street

Go Hilda!

1964 – A. J. Ferrero

28 February 2014

1964k

3052 Sylvan Avenue

A. J. Ferrero also used his trapezoidal mark this year. The two marks overlapped from 1964 to 1966—at least, I have examples of both this lozenge and the trapezoid from 1964 and 1966 so far.

1947 – A. L. Sposeto

27 February 2014

1947cc

3026 Wisconsin Street

Angelo Sposeto signed this mark “A. L. Sposeto” for some reason. He didn’t do that for the other mark of his I have from this year.

1944 – Douglas & Wolfe

26 February 2014

1944v

3336 Kansas Street

This was the last year (or nearly so) that Douglas & Wolfe did business. In 1945 R. G. Wolfe carried on alone with an altered version of this same stamp, then got his own stamp made sometime between 1946 and 1949.
