1925 – Doyle & Sons

11 August 2014

1925

2550 Renwick Street

This is five years older than all previous Doyle & Sons marks I’ve found.

1964 – A. G. Moniz

10 August 2014

1964l

5362 Foothill Boulevard

Good old A. G. Moniz! This mark establishes him in the 1960s.

1952 – Frank M. Brown

9 August 2014

1952y

5420 Ygnacio Avenue

My first Frank Brown mark from the 1950s.

1928 – R. C. Malone

8 August 2014

1928kkkk

4849 Fairfax Avenue

Another example of this date, this one with hand-drawn numerals.

1922 – L. M. Rasmussen

7 August 2014

1922ll

4909 Fairfax Avenue

I think that Rasmussen’s earliest mark, from 1921, had all four digits cast in bronze. In 1922 he clearly altered the final 1 into a 2. After that, I think he eliminated the final digit from the mark.

East 17th Street at Seminary Avenue

There are two or three more of these nearby, all of them more readable than the first one I documented almost two years ago. This one was odd because it was tucked into a pavement corner rather than parallel to a face.
