This is right outside Lois the Pie Queen. I don’t like photographing marks in people’s presence, but it was kind of unavoidable. Anyway, I will assume until proven otherwise that this stands for Golden Gate Construction Co.

There are more of these in the Haddon Hill area; maybe I’ll find one with a date.

906 34th Avenue

This block lies between the tracks and the freeway, but it’s not totally forlorn. There are a few sweet Victorians and very small enterprises here amid the noise and haste. And I’m a sucker for contractors who were proud to be in Fruitvale, not just Oakland.

1075 54th Street

Conceivably this was A. G. Moniz, but I haven’t seen anyone named Chaves before.

5849 Fremont Street

This is in front of a classic home with very old pavement. Drath later used a mark with straight text.

417 Harrison Street

This is a tiny block wrapped around the Webster Street tunnel entrance that looks like it hasn’t changed since the day it was built.
