Blandow gave his location as Fruitvale, which I believe puts this mark no later than about 1920.

Apgar Street is a small, discontinuous street between 39th Street and MacArthur Boulevard. When I survey it, I will have my eyes peeled for more of this maker’s marks. I would like to think that the street was named for Virginia Apgar, inventor of the Apgar scoring system for newborns in 1953, but in fact the eponymous Apgar was the landowner Richard “R.M.” Apgar.

489 36th Street

There are several of these on this block. The words are in a trapezoid instead of the familiar triangle, and there were no dates associated with them.

This mark has room for dates, so I expect to find a dated one some time.
