The corner at this intersection was laid down in 1923 by C. A. Lindstrom. However, at the time East 38th intersected with 14th Avenue. Later this section of 14th, just past where the eastbound 57/58L/NL lines turn onto MacArthur, was renamed Glen Park Road.

Here’s another dated and signed corner. Oakland Paving Company made it in 1913. However, Hays Avenue was renamed Golden Gate Avenue and McAdam Street became first Broadway Terrace, then Romany Road. You have to be careful what you put in concrete. In fact you’ll see that the pavers used a “V” to spell “Hays.”

The last time I put up a corner mark, I said that they aren’t dated or signed. There are exceptions, though. C. A. Lindstrom laid down this Allendale corner in 1923.

Corners: Aileen and Dover

As I approach the end of my project visiting every sidewalk in Oakland, there will come times when it takes more time to find a new maker or date than I have time to walk the streets. After more than seven years, that time has come and for now I don’t have a new mark lined up. When this happens, and it will inexorably become more common, I’ll put up some of the other interesting sidewalk markings I’ve run into over the years.

A number of street corners have the respective street names stamped into the concrete. They aren’t signed and dated. This mark at the corner of Aileen and Dover Streets has been eliminated since I documented it a few years ago.
