42d Street near Shafter Avenue
The Works Progress Administration gave thousands of Americans jobs during the Depression, and WPA masons laid a great deal of excellent stonework around the Bay area. WPA concrete marks are scarce, though. This gutter mark is on the south side of 42d just east of Shafter. There’s another 1940 date on an actual sidewalk at the corner of Boyd Avenue and Clifton Street.
