Mr. Fischer was mysteriously inconsistent in his practice. Maybe as I find more examples, things will make more sense.

3500 Jordan Road

Another straight mark from the years (post-1936) when Ed Doty normally used his curved mark.

3700 block California Street

M. Dias used a pretty racetrack mark until at least 1930, but everything I have after 1934 is hand-drawn.

4146 Norton Avenue

Right across the street from the mark I put up yesterday is this most atypical example of Buel’s work. Maybe an assistant did it, not attempting Buel’s style and even misspelling his name.

4087 Norton Avenue

I found another 1939 example of Ensor Buel’s ebullient mark up in the Broadway Terrace hills two years ago, but that was on the cracked driveway of an empty firestorm lot and it may be erased by now. This one’s more secure.

2933 Carlsen Street

I have an example of this “barrel” mark from 1940 too. In 1937 Ryan used both a straight text and an arched text mark. Some time between then and 1939, Ryan changed to this mark.
