5349 Locksley Avenue

There are a lot of P. M. Henning marks, usually in driveways, around North Oakland. They range from the late 1920s to about 1940.

4339 Howe Street

Geo. D. Prentice goes back at least to 1908.

42d Street and Shafter Avenue

This is the earliest Ed Doty mark I’ve found so far.

Broadway and Napa Street

Hundreds of sidewalk stamps have been wiped out by corner cutouts. That’s a necessary cost of accommodating wheelchairs and blind pedestrians. A few marks have escaped obliteration, and even fewer of those are still recognizable. This is the first Wiggins & Kaiser mark I’ve found, but given the huge role of the Kaiser industrial empire around here, I expect to find more.
