I can’t make out the first character, but Lincoln Cushing’s catalog makes it clear. Across the top it reads “BUA & ROBERTS” and across the bottom it says “254 BACON BLDG”. The Bacon Building was on Broadway between 11th and 12th Streets.

This is the earliest Schnoor Bros mark I’ve found. There seems to be a pattern with early dates: the marks are robust, as if the makers want to really impress people. Shortly afterward the marks get lighter.
