There’s a date below this mark, but I can’t decipher it. Much of the sidewalk near here was laid in 1914 by the Kaus Bros. outfit.

FWIW, I’ve seen two stamped marks in West Berkeley that just say “Madsen” in all caps with a stamped year of 1915 just below. But oddly the style of those two stamps doesn’t match (though it’s somewhat similar), nor does it match this L. Madsen stamp. But it seems like it’s a good possibility that they’re all from the same contractor.
