1902 – Hutchinson and Ransome

9th Avenue at E. 24th Street

I can’t make out the name of this maker, but Ken’s comment helps me see “Ransome” at the bottom in the full-size image. (I originally thought it said Oakland.) This mark is also noteworthy for being the oldest barrel-shaped mark I’ve found. No one else used this shape, as far as I can tell, until J. H. Fitzmaurice adopted it in 1926, and after that no one used it until 1940.

Pretty sure this is Hutchinson & Ransome. It looks like it matches the marks from 1902 in Berkeley that Lincoln Cushing documented – see link. Those marks in Berkeley were still there when I checked them out a year ago.
